Over the past 5 years, Alexandria has been hosting a go-kart street racing event called the Alexandria Grand Prix. This event is a sanctioned event by the Southern Indiana Racing Association. It is the 8th race of the 10 race season. Drivers from all over the Midwest travel to Alexandria to compete in this 2 day event. The Alexandria Grand Prix brings in over 4000 spectators and 100 drivers to the community. The Alexandria Grand Prix is now the largest go-kart street racing event in Indiana, and one of the largest in the Midwest (according to the SIRA). Drivers of ages from 5 yrs old to retirees come to race on the downtown streets at speeds up to 65 mph. This year the Alexandria Grand Prix has been endorsed as a Legacy Project for the 2016 Indiana Bicentennial. The Alexandria Grand Prix is proud to be a part of Indiana's Bicentennial. The AGP will hold a special ceremony to honor the racing heritage of Alexandria. Following the ceremony, there will be a “Celebrity Bicentennial Race” held during Saturday's activities. We have invited individuals involved in the Indiana Bicentennial and other state/county dignitaries to participate in this race. Be sure to come and see some of the finest go-kart street racing in the state. Alexandria Grand Prix- August 20-21, Downtown Alexandria..."We are Driven".
